Summer bodies are made in the winter

March 19, 2017 By Iva Kjaer

I got married almost two years ago in August and, like most brides, I wanted to look beyond great in my wedding dress. After all, I wasn’t going to pay all that money for a gorgeous Benjamin Roberts gown and then not make the most of it! 😉

So I trained hard in the winter to reach my goal. No one could stand in my way…except that evil piggy inside of me who was missing chocolate glazed donuts!

It was hard to shut her up at times, I can tell you that much! 🙂 But in the end, all my hard work paid off, because I felt great in my wedding dress on my big day.

Changing my way of thinking

But summer has ended and by the time the winter came I gained weight again, but this time it was much harder to lose it! I didn’t know if it was the lack of strong motivation that I had before, or if my inner piggy just couldn’t get full.

I trained regularly and I thought I ate healthy, but I just couldn’t move forward. And then, right when I started feeling desperate, I met a person who changed it all!

Darko Pirc is a licensed fitness trainer who I met while I was taking his pictures for a Croatian edition of a fitness magazine “Men’s Health”.

After the photoshoot we started talking and I’ve told him about my endless struggle with weight loss and he decided to help me. Over the following months he completely changed my diet, my way of training and most importantly – my way of thinking!

Losing weight was suddenly not a huge struggle like it was before

I still needed to eat healthy, but the great thing was that I could eat everything as long as it was balanced and if I trained regularly! I can’t tell you enough how happy I felt week after week while my weight continued to go down.

Before I’ve started to train with Darko, I didn’t know how complex the human body actually was when it came to weight loss, and how many things needed to fit together if you wanted results. It wasn’t all black and white like “eat salad, forget sweets and go running!”

The decision to work with a personal trainer was, with no doubt, one of the best decisions I have ever made. So I’ve decided to ask Darko if he would share some of his “secrets” with all of you who are currently struggling with weight (welcome to the club 🙂 ), and all of you future brides who just want to look and feel great on your wedding day.

Here’s what he wrote:

Dear girls, no pain no gain!

That is the first and most important thing you need to know. There is no magic pill, shake or device in this World which can help you lose weight overnight, sorry Top Shop 🙂 .

You need to exercise regularly, eat healthy and be persistent

Never allow yourself to feel extreme hunger, because you will slow down your metabolism and it will be even harder for you to lose weight. Rather eat small meals every 3-4 hours, balance them and plan them ahead.

Base your diet mostly on protein and then add carbs and fats according to your training plan and don’t forget to drink a lot of water, at least 1,5l per day. When it comes to losing weight it’s important to have consistency, balance, diversity, and moderation.

It can get hard along the way, but it always comes back to this: How bad do you want it?

Now go out, work out, look hot and kick ass!

I hope this blog was helpful to you and, as always, feel free to leave a comment or suggestion bellow.

There will be more healthy tips to help you along the way in the future, so stay tuned. 😉 You can follow Darko on Facebook.
